Getting Started in Business

This popular workshop provides a complete overview of business start-up and planning considerations, oriented to those planning a venture as well as existing small business owners. Topics include the entrepreneurial lifestyle, feasibility, business strategy, business plan preparation, marketing, financing and additional resources. A free workbook is provided. These seminars are offered free of charge.

Sales and Marketing Basics

So, you’ve already started your business, but nobody is calling, and nobody is buying (or they aren’t buying enough!). This workshop provides an overview and orientation to basic marketing concepts, strategies and tactics. You will learn about developing marketing strategies, conducting research, establishing pricing, the meaning of “branding”, distribution channels, advertising, public relations, and most importantly, ideas for maximizing awareness and sales.

Massachusetts Conference for Women
 
MA Conference for WomenRETHINK, RESOLVE, RENEW. The Massachusetts Conference for Women offers incredible opportunities for community connection, business networking, and professional and personal growth.
It provides connection, motivation, networking, inspiration and skill building for thousands of women each year. Since the first conference in 2005, this annual one-day event has grown to attract more than 4,500 attendees and impact thousands of lives. 

Keynote speakers include: Suze Orman, personal finance expert and bestselling author; Marcus Buckingham, leading business consultant and bestselling author; Tory Johnson, CEO of Women for Hire and Good Morning America's workplace contributor; Diane Patrick, first lady of Massachusetts, lawyer, teacher and active member of the community; Ruth Simmons, president of Brown University; and Susan Taylor, editor emerita of Essence magazine and founder of the National Cares Mentoring Movement.

Hosted in conjunction with the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, the Massachusetts Conference for Women is a non-profit, non-partisan event that features dozens of expert speakers leading workshops and seminars on the issues that matter most to women, including personal finance, business and entrepreneurship, health, work/life balance and more.

Business Law and Contracts

Any economic transaction embodies a contract. In this comprehensive overview of business law and contracts, you will learn about how contracts are defined and constructed, the types of law that govern contracts, navigating oral and written contracts, contracts in the internet age, breaches, disputes, and different avenues for remediation, bankruptcy, and typical issues and areas of concern, including product liability, employment agreements, commercial leases, and finding corporate attorneys to meet your need.

Cancellations received by noon the day prior to the seminar will be entitled to a refund. No refund will be given on notifications received after that time or in any no-show situation. The MSBDC Boston Regional Office & Minority Business Center reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a seminar due to insufficient enrollment. Registration fees will be returned or credited towards a future program.
